Gordon Ernest Schmidt

Gordon Ernest Schmidt, 81, of Slinger, was welcomed home by his Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the Hartford Care Center.

He was born to Ernest and Emma (nee Schultz) Schmidt on Sept. 10., 1925 in Beaver Dam.

Gordon served in the Second World War, serving his country honorably in the United States Navy in the Naval Amphibious Forces.

After discharge from the Navy, Gordon was employed as a factory worker for John Deere of Horicon.

It was during this time that he met the love of his life and married Louise H. Grahn on May 2, 1949 in Waukegan, Ill.

Gordon later worked for Weyenberg Shoe Co. in Beaver Dam and later for Stolper Steel in Menomonee Falls for over 30 years, retiring in 1985.

Upon his retirement, Gordon took a part-time position at K-Mart in Hartford.

He was a dedicated member of Peace Lutheran Evangelical Church in Hartford, serving as an usher. Gordon was also a member of the American Legion in Slinger.

Survivors include his loving son, Dennis (Christine) Schmidt of Fox Lake; two adoring grandchildren, Stephanie (Patrick) Daute and William (Amber) Schmidt, bth of West Bend; and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Schmidt and Natalie Daute.

Gordon is further survived by one brother, Jack (Bunnie) Schmidt of Beaver Dam; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Schmidt of Fox Lake; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 57 years, Louise; his daughter, Debbie; and one brother, Robert.

Funeral services were held at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartford, with a committal of burial in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Fox Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Peace Luther-an Evangelical Church of Hart-ford.
