Donald M. Laine

A celebration of the life of Donald M. Laine of Cedarburg will be held at 11 a.m. on June 30 at Advent Lutheran Church (W63 N642 Washington Ave.) in Cedarburg. Don was born to eternal life on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the age of 77. The Rev. Dr. Janis Kinens will officiate the memorial service. The family will greet friends at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of service. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Zur Ruhe Cemetery. Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg is serving the family.

Don was born and raised in Conneaut, Ohio. He graduated from Conneaut High School and later from UW-Stout. Don served our country as a U.S. Marine in the Korean War. He was an avid athlete and sports fan. In high school he lettered in football, basketball and track. Don continued his love of sports by supporting his children and grandchildren through their various achievements. He helped originate the Little League program in Cedarburg and was a loyal fan of CHS athletic programs for many years. Don was a history buff and enjoyed reading many history novels and also belonged to the Civil War Roundtable. He had been a faithful and active member of Advent Lutheran Church since joining in August, 1965.

Don worked many years as a tool and die maker and then became an instructor at Moraine Park Technical College, teaching tool and die for 23 years. He retired in 1992 to enjoy special moments with his family (the love of his life), traveling, woodworking and gardening. Don was an avid Wisconsin Badger and Ohio State fan. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Don was the dear husband and best friend of Carol (nee Tank), married 55 years. He was the loving father of Don Jr. (Bobbi), Dyan (Stu) Hannam, Sandy (Ken) Beckwith and Dan (Joan); the proud grandfather of Kristi (Romee) Johnson, Don III (Kelly), Jon (Allison) Hannam, Michelle (fiancˇ Nick) Hannam, Danielle, Kayla and Kyle Beckwith and Ryan and Brittany. He was a dear great-grandfather to Corey Johnson.

Don is also survived by his brother Ray (Linda) Laine; his sister Viola (David) Halkold; and his brother-in-law Kenneth (Marcia) Tank. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his brother Arnold (Helen) Laine.

Don’s family wishes to thank the Rev. Dr. Janis Kinens, Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon and Dr. Budny and Horizon Home Care for their guidance and help during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Advent Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, Kathy Hospice or Ruth Hospice-North.
