James W. Grager

James W. Grager of Slinger formerly of Hartford passed away surrounded by his loving family, Friday, June 22, 2007 at his residence. He was 81 years old.

He was born on July 29, 1925 in Hartford to Bernard and Josephine (nee Simon) Grager. He married Beatrice "Bea" Burke on Aug. 25, 1947 at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Hartford VFW Post #8834 and Courtney-Carr-Milner American Legion Post #19.

Jim was the police chief of Hartford for many years retiring in 1980. Jim was a Life Member of the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association. He was a member of St. Peterís Catholic Church. Jim enjoyed golfing, fishing up north at his cabin and traveling especially to Jamaica every year.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Bea; his brother, Robert (Lavern) Grager of Marinette; his sisters-in-law, Verna Feutz of Jackson, Marjorie Wenzel of Hartford and Lucille Burke of Aurora, Ill. Jim is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen (Tom) Surrell and Elaine (Joseph) Pryal

The Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at St. Peterís Catholic Church in Slinger, with Father Richard Stoffel officiating. Visitation was at the church on Tuesday prior to the Mass. Interment was at St. Kilian Cemetery, Hartford, with graveside military rites conducted by the Hartford VFW and the American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peterís Catholic Church or American Cancer Society appreciated.
