Nancy Just Yahr
Nancy Just Yahr, 75, died at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born March 17, 1932, in Manitowoc, the daughter of William W. and Olga (Sampe) Just. Nancy graduated from Lincoln High School in Manit-owoc where she was honored queen of Job’s Daughters Bethel 11.
She married Robert G. Yahr, the love of her life, on Sept. 6, 1953 in Manitowoc. They began their life together in Yokohama, Japan where Bob served as a dentist in the Army. After returning to the States, Nancy graduated from Northwestern University.
In 1956, they moved to Janesville where they raised their four children and were active in the community. Nancy became involved in the Bower City Garden Club, Jr. Woman’s Club, Woman’s Club, Janesville Art League, PTA organizations, and was president of The Town Hall Series.
She loved to volunteer at numerous organizations including Castaways Thrift Shop, Mercy Hospital’s Gift Shop and the Blood Bank. Later, she played a supportive role with Bob in the creation of Janesville’s Rotary Gardens. Her emphasis was starting the Garden’s Gift Shop as well as the Woodland Walk.
Nancy was an outdoor enthusiast who lived life to the fullest. She loved to golf, bike, play tennis, hike, ski, garden and was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially numerous bike trips to Europe and ski vacations to Colorado.
For nearly 20 years, Nancy and Bob treasured winters in Scottsdale, Ariz., which enabled them to continue their active lifestyle with their many friends. Her beautiful smile warmed the hearts of all who knew her and she cherished her many wonderful friendships.
Nancy had a tremendous gift of welcoming everyone with her kindness, energy and positive spirit. She loved to entertain friends and family and was always a gracious hostess.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Yahr; four children: Sue (Steve) Friedrichsen of Omaha, Neb., Lynn (Don) Landre of Janesville, Bruce (Kelly Dionne) Yahr of Kent, Wash., and Kris (Jeff) Cope of Middleton; seven grandchildren: Molly and Erik Friedrichsen, Aubrey and Christopher Rankin, Peter Dionne-Yahr, and Charlie and Gretchen Cope; a brother, Harold (Nancy) Just of Manitowoc.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Olga (Sampe) Just; and many aunts and uncles.
Our parents enjoyed over 54 wonderful years together. We love and miss you Mom. YOU’RE THE BEST!
The family will gather with friends to Celebrate Nancy’s Life on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Rotary Gardens (1455 Palmer Drive) from 4 to 8 p.m. A time of reflection and memory sharing will be held at 6:30 pm.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Rotary Gardens, HospiceCare Inc., or the Ameri-can Cancer Society.
