Fred H. Falkenstein

Fred H. Falkenstein, 88, of Hartford passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Horicon Manor.

He was born Jan. 16, 1919 in the township of Herman, the son of Fred and Meta (nee Ulmer) Fal-kenstein, and married Myrtle Groth in 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He had farmed in the Huils-burg area for over 53 years.

Sometime after the death of Myrtle, Fred married Margaret (nee Squires) Eichstaedt in 1972 at St. Paulís Ev. Lutheran in Slinger.

After his retirement from dairy farming, Fred began tending and raising apples on the orchard on the family farm.

He was a longtime member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran church in Huilsburg and later a member of St. Paulís Ev. Lutheran Church in Slinger.

He is survived by his children, Barbara Mertig of Tennessee, Dennis (Phyllis) Falkenstein of California and Gary (Meggie) Falkenstein of Hartford; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Fred is preceded in death by his wives, Myrtle in 1970 and Margaret in 2004.

Funeral servicse will be Tuesday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Paulís Ev. Lutheran Church in Slinger.

Rev. James A. Castillo will officiate, and interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hillside Home Care Hospice, 709 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam, would be appreciated.
