Dorothy Knitter, 81, of Port Washington went to her eternal home Wednesday evening, March 21, 2007 at The Kathy Hospice in West Bend.
She was born Feb. 16, 1926 in Menominee, Mich., daughter of Harry and Rosamond (Sharkey) Roth, and on June 25, 1946 she married Robert Knitter.
He preceded her in death in 1987.
Dorothy was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington where she sang in the choir.
She was also a former volunteer for COPE Hotline and served in the former St. Alphonsus Hospital Auxilary in Port Washington.
Her artistic talents included oil painting and knitting.
Survivors include four children, Linda (Steve) Nisleit of Port Washington, Robert Knitter of Green Bay, Nancy Wegner of Kewaskum and William Knitter of Grafton; five grandchildren, Laura, Michael, Katherine, Josh and Tamara; two great-grandchildren, Fox and Skyler; two sisters, Marion (the late Joe) Milner of Whitefish Bay and Jane (Ed) Halbach of Estes Park, Colo.
She was preceded in death by three infant children; a brother, Bob (Dorothy) Roth; and a sister, Katheryn (William) Engelbach.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Sunday, March 25, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1800 N. Wiscon-sin St., Port Washington, with Father Pat Wendt officiating.
Burial will be with her husband at Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee.
Visitation at the church only will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
