Jewel O. Aker

Jewel O. Aker of Slinger, formerly of Colton, S.D. passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007 at Kathy Hospice in West Bend, at the age of 86.

He was born Oct. 28, 1920 in Aurora, S.D. to Palmer and Selma (nee Wastrum) Aker, and married Clara Geddes on Oct. 30, 1948 in Mitchell, S.D.

Jewel worked as a sheet metal worke, and had owned a blacksmith shop in Colton.

After retiring, he helped his son with a tree service business.

He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving overseas with the 322nd Troop Carrier Wing in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He was a member of the Post 206 American Legion in South Dakota.

He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn (Richard) Lexa of West Bend and Sharon (Brian) Blair of Hartford; a son, Ronald (Sandy) Aker of California; six grandchildren, Tom (Jenni), Adam, Julia, Stephanie, Eliza-beth, Rachael and Chad; a great-grandchild, Samantha Grace; three sisters, Maxine Steinfeldt of South Dakota, Shirley (Don) Van Wyne-Turgeon of Kansas and Sally Aker of Montana; two brothers, James (Cookie) Aker of Tennessee and Ray (Adelyn) Aker of Delaware.

He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; his son, Rodney; and two brothers, Russell and Clayton.

Funeral services for Jewel will be held Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union St., Hartford, with Rev. Robert Kirchman officiating.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home.

There will also be a time of visitation on Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Colton, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a funeral service on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 403 E. Third St., Colton, with Rev. Steve Martens officiating.

Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Colton.
