Norman H. "Normie" Spiel
Norman H. "Normie" Spiel, of West Bend, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Cedar Lake Health Care Center, after 83 years of life.
Normie was born on Oct. 22, 1923, the son of the late Andrew Sr. and Norma (nee Freitag) Spiel.
In his youth, he sailed on Big Cedar Lake and worked at Rosenheimers.
He married Delores Ehlers on Oct. 16, 1945 and together they farmed the family farm on Big Cedar Lake, which was established and has been in the family since 1896.
Throughout his life, Normie took pride in his career as a dairy farmer at Big Cedar Lake, and also devoted 30 honorable years to working at A.O. Smith.
In his free time, he enjoyed the serenity and wilderness his farmland provided him, especially when hunting season came around.
He was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford.
Normie will be kept in the hearts of his children, Gary (Janis) Spiel of Hartford, Marc Spiel and Terry Spiel, both of West Bend; four grandchildren, Jody (Brian) King of Slinger, Jamie (Mark) Leoni and Greta (Jack) McCarthy, both of Hart-ford, and Alyssa Spiel of Madi-son; seven great-grandchildren, Kira, Carly, Marie and Matthew King, Jordan and Sam Leoni and Emma McCarthy; and two sisters-in-law, Mabel Tamms of Florida and Violet Spiel of Milwaukee.
He will also be missed by his other special relatives and many dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Delores; an infant son, Monty; and two brothers, Andrew Jr. and Howard Spiel.
A funeral service in memory of Normie will be held on Thursday, March 29, at noon at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, with Pastor Aaron Steinbrenner officiating.
Interment will take place in Diefenbach’s Cemetery.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service noon.
