Fred J. Brown

Fred J. Brown, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 4, 2007 at Linden Grove of Waukesha.

Fred was born on Jan. 3, 1924 to the late Harvey and Agnes (nee Farrell) Brown in Milwaukee, where he was also raised.

He married Catherine Can-nella on Feb. 9, 1952. They started a family in Milwaukee where he was a correctional officer until he retired as a captain in 1986.

Then the couple moved to Big Cedar Lake in Slinger.

Fred valued staying fit. He enjoyed exercise, especially long swims in Cedar Lake, and walking his dog, Rusty.

Above all, he adored his loving family, attending all the activities and sporting events of his children and grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his cherished children, Patti Weske (Werner Zeitler) of West Bend, Cathy Witkowski of Waukesha, Fred (Lori) Brown of Sheboygan Falls, Margaret (Dan) Karius of Chilton, Michael (Jackie) Brown of Pewaukee, Barbara (Bob) Hucke of Delafield, Jimmy (Jackie) Brown of Genesee and Robert (Pam) Brown of Slinger; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Hazel "Dolly" Brown.

He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, William; a sister, Jane Koch; a grandson, Daniel Brown; and a granddaughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Liz" Witkowski (nee George).

The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Peterís Catholic Church, Slinger, with Father Richard Stoffel officiating.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. at The Phillip Funeral Home, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend.

There will also be a prayer vigil on Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Linden Heights of Waukesha for their compassionate care given to Fred.
