Richard Arthur "Dick" Gruenewald

Richard Arthur "Dick" Gruenewald age 74 of Wabeno, formerly of Mequon, passed away at his residence on May 13, 2007. Dick was born in Mequon to the late Edwin and Lydia (Burkholz) Gruenewald on Feb 25, 1933. He farmed until his retirement and was affectionately known as the "fat farmer of Mequon." On June 7, 1968 he married Joan Loots. He was very active in the Mequon/Thiensville communities as a life-long member of the Mequon Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad; a participant and organizer of baseball and softball; a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church South Mequon and the churchís Menís Club; and an active participant and grower for the Milwaukee Hunger Task Force.

He and his wife retired to the Wabeno area where he belonged to the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Winter Weasels Snowmobile Club.

He will be best remembered as a passionate packer fan and avid storyteller.

He is survived by his wife Joan; three children: Curtis (Lynn) Gruenewald, Beaver Dam; Bradley (Diana) Kidd, Menomonee Falls, and Cindy (Tim) Selig, Hartford.

Six grandchildren: Aaron (Nicole) Gruenewald, Eric Gruenewald, Jeremy (Carly) Kidd, Stephanie (Kirk) Spencer, Adam and Melanie Selig; three great-grandchildren: Liam, Amelia and Cameron.

He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Eleanor Chole and 1 Brother Robert Gruenewald.

The visitation was held yesterday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wabeno and will continue on today at the Schramka-Densow Funeral Home, 423 N. Main St., Thiensville, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A funeral Service will be held on Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church South Mequon at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Stanley Weinrich officiating.

Interment is in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Milwaukee. Suminski Funeral Home, Wabeno 715-473-3131 entrusted with arrangements. Memorials will be shared with the American Diabetes Association, the MS Society or a charity of your choice.
