Richard M. "Dik" Buntrock

Richard M. "Dik" Buntrock, 69, a former long-time resident of West Bend, passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. on Oct. 12, 2007.

Dik was born in Grafton, to Albert and Ida Buntrock who preceded him in death.

Dik is survived by his wife Chris of Green Valley, Ariz.; a brother Albert (Nancy) Buntrock of Belgium, Wis.; a sister Verna (Art) Rohwer of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; and a daughter Sara (Arron) Decker of Grayslake, Ill.

After finishing high school in Grafton, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Colorado, Arizona and California.

After an honorable discharge, Dik attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and Cardinal Stritch College where he earned a Master of Arts degree. San Diego University awarded Dik an honorary doctorate in speech and communications.

Dik taught at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and Badger Middle School in West Bend.

He also worked for several management consulting firms in the Milwaukee area after he left teaching.

In West Bend, he was active in the March of Dimes, the Memorial Day Parade and Toastmasters.

In Toastmasters, he earned numerous awards and was Lt. Govenor and District Govenor.

After retirement, Dik moved to Green Valley, Ariz. where he met and married Chris.

Together they enjoyed golf, horses, taught Bible classes at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior and served on the board of trustees.

He also enjoyed traveling - especially organizing tour groups to Germany.

A memorial service was held Oct. 18 at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior in Green Valley, with Rev. John Stieve officiating.
