Jon Valentine Wean

Jon Valentine Wean of Mequon passed away at his home on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007 at the age of 89, after battling kidney failure for three years.

Jon followed his son William "Bill" Valentine in death, dying two months after Bill died of leukemia in September.

Private funeral services were held on Nov. 23 and Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Me-quon served the family.

Jon was born on July 6, 1918 in Goshen, Ind., the son of Floyd and Marie (nee Brakes) Wean.

He married Vivian Victoria Replogle on Oct. 10, 1943. They had three children, Victoria Marie (James Hintz), William Valentine and John David (Mary Feider). Jon is also survived by his granddaughters Jennifer Susan Hintz and Lisel Sarah Hintz; and his grandsons Mat-thew Alan, Christopher John and David Valentine Wean.

Jon graduated from Tri-State University as an aeronautical engineer, subsequently serving in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant junior grade in the Pacific, during World War II.

He returned home and was employed at Studebaker and then General Motors.

In 1960, he moved to Mequon to work as a project engineer in the Apollo Space Program.

Jon Wean was beloved for his quips, generosity, sense of fairness and honesty. He wanted nothing for himself. He was truly a family man.
