Mary F. "Muffy" Leathen

Mary F. "Muffy" Leathen, nee Nusbaum, 92, of West Bend died on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at her residence at Cedar Bay West.

She was born on Sep. 16, 1915 in Goshen, Ind. to the late Daniel and Mabel (nee Gorsuch) Nusbaum.

As a young child, her family moved to Park Falls. After graduating from Park Falls High School, Mary attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned her bachelorís degree in food and nutrition.

She then became employed as a pediatric dietitian, working at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.

In 1942, she enlisted in the United States Army, working at a field hospital in England.

While she was in the service, she met her future husband, William Leathen. It was following her discharge that she and Bill were married in Park Falls on Sept. 11, 1945.

In 1947, the family moved to Pittsburgh.

Bill predeceased on April 20, 1993.

In 1995, Mary moved to Wisconsin, settling in West Bend, to be closer to her family.

She was a charter member of the Wexford Community United Presbyterian Church and was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include three childre, Mary (Lawrence) Gibenter of Turlock, Calif., William J. (Susan) of Onalaska and Sue Ellen Leathen of Burbank, Calif.; five grandchildren, Michael Leathen, Matthew Leathen, Sarah (Doug-las) Kaber, Cindy Gibenter and Dominion Gibenter; four great-grandchildren, Emma Kaber, Saerdra and Mickel Gibenter and Jasmine Nickelberry; two sisters, Jean Meloy of Waunakee and Kate (Gene) Bradfield of Apple-ton; a brother-in-la,. Leo Miller of Newburg; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Lucile Hardzinski, David Nusbaum, Joseph Nusbaum, Sarah Miller and Sue Nusbaum.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend.

Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Visitation will be on Tuesday at the funeral home from 3 until 5:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Welcome Home Bed and Breakfast in Newburg, Cedar Community Hospice or Cedar Bay West.
