John E. Howard
John E. Howard of Jackson has passed away at the age of 74 on Oct. 1, 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jan; daughters, Diane (Jim) Opdycke, Phyllis (John) Koleske of Caledonia and Patti (Paul) Singh of Milwaukee; sons, Roc (Sheri) of Jackson and Dan (Nancy) of Milwaukee; and several grandchildren.
He is further survived by sisters, Dorothy Overturf and Mary Smith of Chicago, Ill.; and brothers, Don (Marge) of Georgia and Charles (Helaine) of California.
John was preceded in death by his son, Richard.
John retired from the C&NW Railroad in 1991 after 35 plus years of service.
He worked as a crossing guard at Jackson Elementary School for the last several years, a job he sincerely loved. He became known as the candyman because of all the suckers he gave to the children.
John was also a lifetime member of the Jackson Memorial Post 7240 VFW.
Johnís most favorite things to do during his retirement were to tend his yard during the summer and shovel snow during the winter.
A service to honor Johnís life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 4:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, N168 W20152 Main St, Jackson.
The service will be followed by a fellowship luncheon in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at M&I Bank in Jackson. All donations will go to the Washington County Hu-mane Society.
