M.A. "Pat" Patten
M.A. "Pat" Patten, 96, of West Bend, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 at Cedar Crossings on Chestnut at Cedar Community, West Bend.
He was born on July 6, 1911 in Springville, Iowa to the late Robert Walter and Anna Arminta (nee Andrews) Patten.
Pat worked with his father at the family hardware store in Marion, Iowa until his father’s death. Pat then went to work as a housewares department buyer in Omaha, Neb.
He was then hired by Sears in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as hardware manager and was later promoted to assistant store manager.
He was transferred by Sears to Freeport, Ill. where he met Agnes Hannah and they were married on May 3, 1941.
In 1945, Pat was transferred to the Sears store in West Bend where he was the store manager until 1958.
After leaving Sears, Pat owned and operated Patten’s Ace Hardware Store in Menomonee Falls until 1965. He was then employed as a sales executive for Brooker’s Sales until retiring in 1979.
During his retirement, Pat continued to work part-time as a driver at the Russ Darrow Auto Dealership in West Bend.
Pat enjoyed golf, family gatherings and playing cards with his family and friends. He was also a sports fan and enjoyed the Milwaukee Braves and Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.
Pat is survived by five children, Mark (Vicky) Patten of West Bend, Jim (Merrie) Patten of Campbellsport, Dave Patten of West Bend, Bob (Kathy) Patten of West Bend, and Melinda (Kevin) Jessup of West Bend; seven grandsons, Matthew Patten, Adam Patten, Scott Patten, Bob (Kerri jo) Patten, Brett (Karen) Patten, Ian Jessup and Sean Jessup; four great-grandchildren, Evan, Elise, Aidan and Greer; a niece, Carol (Rex) Friedman of North Little Rock, Ark.; two nephews, Bob Peddycoart of California and David (Deb) Peddycoart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aggie; and his sister and her husband, Hazel (V.E.) Peddy-coart.
Funeral services for Pat will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
Burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend, on Monday at 10 a.m.
