A memorial service and a celebration of the life of Lorraine Haendel (nee Prestin) was held on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Schramka-Densow Funeral Home in Thiensville.
The Rev. Stanley Weinrich officiated the service.
Lorraine went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007 at the age of 85.
The family received relatives and friends prior to the service. A private burial was held at the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church of South Mequon Cemetery.
Lorraine was born on April 5, 1922, daughter of John and Meta Prestin. She was raised in Milwaukee and graduated from North Division High School.
She and her late husband Jack raised their family in Mequon and, in 1978, moved to Chattanooga, Tenn.
In 1996, she and Jack returned to Grafton to be closer to their family.
Since the death of her husband Jack in 2003, Lorraine has been living at various Family Tree Residential Homes.
Lorraine was the loving mother of three sons Gary (Kathy), Rick (Sandy) and Dann (Shellee); the proud grandma of six grandchildren Jamie, Jackie, Brett, AJ, Brooke and Jenna and was a special "grandma" to Ling Lin.
Throughout her life, Lorraine enjoyed sewing, knitting, maintaining flower gardens and, until three years ago, she loved to bowl and participated in many local bowling leagues.
Even though she experienced Alzheimer’s disease, she was blessed with a joyful spirit and was always happy, always had a smile and giggled a lot.
Her kind and gentle spirit will be missed by many.
If desired, memorial contributions may be directed in Lorraine’s name to her church, Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church of South Mequon, the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful and compassionate caregivers at all three of the Family Tree Residential Facilities: the Highland, Hamburg and Harrison Homes.
