Richard K. Kimla

Richard K. Kimla, 65, of Three Lakes, formerly of West Bend and Fond du Lac, died on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007 at Kathy Hospice, town of Polk, following a courageous and hard fought battle against cancer.

He was born on June 30, 1942 in West Bend to Thomas and Hazel (nee Schommer) Kimla.

As a child, he attended Holy Angels Grade School and graduated from West Bend High School in 1960.

He then attended Dodge County Teachers College, graduating in 1962. His education continued at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he earned his bachelorís and masterís degrees.

On Aug. 13, 1966, he was united in marriage to Nancy L. Hirsig in Kewaskum.

Dick taught for 34 years at Fond du Lac area elementary schools, including Washington School, Bragg Elementary School and Chegwin Elementary School, from where he retired in 1998.

During this time, he also was a behind-the-wheel driverís education teacher.

Dick was a member of the Fond du Lac Education Associa-tion (FEA), Winnebagoland Uni-serv, Wisconsin Education As-sociation Council (WEAC), Nat-ional Education Association (NEA), Wisconsin Retired Educa-tors Association (WREA), Wis-consin State Readers Association (WSRA), the Northern Light HOG Chapter, the Three Lakes Beautification Committee and the Three Eagle Trail Foundation.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his mother, Hazel of Fond du Lac; two sisters and a brother, Kaye K. Kimla of Green Valley, Ariz., Robert T. (Dotty L.) of St. Croix, Virgin Islands and Linda I. (Lawrence J.) Scharrer of West Bend; three brothers-in-law, Nor-man (Gloria) Hirsig of Racine, Randy (Janice) Hirsig of Sun Prairie and Neal (Susan Bryant) Hirsig of North Reading, Mass.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas; a brother, Mark; his grandmother, Irene Schommer; and his parents-in-law, Oscar and Pauline Hirsig.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1025 S Seventh Ave, West Bend, with Father Jeff Haines presiding.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Wednesday from 5 until 5:45 p.m and also in the church hall following Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to Kathy Hospice or the charity of the donorís choice.

The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family.
