Gertrude Hazel Martha Thom
Gertrude Hazel Martha Thom of Hustisford passed away at the Mayville Nursing Home on Sept. 20, 2007 at the age of 100 years, 11 months and 26 days. She was born Sept. 25, 1906, the daughter of Carl and Lena (nee Winkelman) Dummer. Gertrude married Edwin C. Thom on May 2, 1925. They were married for 40 years until Edwin’s passing. She worked as a cook at Hustisford High School for 33 years, retiring in 1980. Gertrude was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for over 70 years. She had jobs at a canning factory in town, and at Henkel Plastics Mfg. She was a wonderful homemaker and a Legion Auxiliary member for 52 years. Gertrude loved to fish, cook and crochet.
She is survived by her son, Walter (Lucille) Thom of Tomahawk; her daughter, Pearl (Franklin) Nehls of Hustisford; seven grandchildren, Pamela (Mark) Westphal, Sandra (Don) Held, Trina (Dwight) Stange, Sarah (Mark) Wallace, Troy (Theresa) Thom, Todd (Lornita) Thom and Trent Thom; 13 great-grandchildren, Michelle Klett, Thomas Burgess, Michael Westphal, Gary Held, Corey Held, Karin Hug, Katie Stange, Samantha Stange, Travis Thom, Katrina Banashak, Todd Thom II, Lialaine Thom and Ivan Thom; and 11 great-great-grandchildren, Connor, Emily, Madalyn, Benjamin, Jacob, Grady, Matthew, Michaela, Grace, Jimmy and Bobby.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin C. Thom, five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation was on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church in Hustisford. The funeral service followed at the church with Revs. Timothy Bauer and David Pries officiating. Interment was in Hustisford Cemetery.
