Joseph I. Scharpf

Joseph I. Scharpf, 80, of Hartford passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at his home.

He was born on March 19, 1928 in Rubicon to Martin and Marie (nee Guldan) Scharpf, and married Elizabeth Komp on Sept. 11, 1948, at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Hartford.

Joseph served his country in the U.S. Navy in 1945, and worked for Midas International for 45 years before retiring.

He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Joseph was a man who loved simple things - he enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to Alaska where he and Elizabeth visited three times. He loved nature, and enjoyed listening to song birds.

Joseph especially loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth; his children, Sandra (Paul) Bob-rowitz of Merton, Karen (Bill) Herbert of Mt. Horeb, Joann (Ronald Sr.) Kassel of the town of Erin, Christine (Keith) Marks of Hartford, Bryan (Lynne) Scharpf of Merton, Jeff (Valentina) Scharpf of West Bend, Timothy (Frieda) Scharpf of Hartford and Lori (Michael) Rothenhoefer of Addison; 21 grandchildren, Craig and Jason Bobrowitz, Ginger Kimpton, Stacy Brunner, Jennifer Mentovay, Ronald Kassel Jr., Charley and Susie Fortman, Lyndsey, Annie, Moll, and Gracie Scharpf, Heather Scharpf, Denis Ardelean, Tracey and Stephanie Laufer, Zachary, Jacob, Emily, Madeline and Sarah Rothenhoe-fer; five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Noah Bobrowitz, Logan Kimpton, Kali and Jessi Brunner; and his sisters, Genevieve Ashenmacher of Minnesota and Cecelia Heinke of Ft. Atkinson.

He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie (Arnie) Quandt; and two brothers, Martin Jr. and Francis.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, April 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Lawrence, with Father Joseph Dominic officiating.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at St. Lawrence Church from 3 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Interment will be at St. Kilian Cemetery, Hartford

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Research Clinic or Vitas Hospice are appreciated.
