Brendan C. Hawkins

Brendan C. Hawkins, 89, of Hot Springs Village, Ark. died Friday, April 4, 2008 in a Hot Springs hospital.

He was born Dec. 2, 1918 in Chicago to the late Alfred and Theresa (nee Dugineer) Hawkins.

Brendan was a United States Air Force veteran, serving his country in World War II where he taught radar school at Boca Raton, Fla.

He was also a retired teacher from Crystal Lake (Ill.) High School.

He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BS degree in physics and a MS degree in education.

He was an honor graduate of New Mexico Highlands Univer-sity of Las Vegas, N.M. with a MS degree in physical science, where he received academic honors - Sigma Pi Sigma, a national physics honor society.

Brendan enjoyed RVing in Mexico, Canada and the United States, especially the southwest.

He also enjoyed spending time at the couple’s summer home in Wittenberg.

One of his hobbies was as an amateur radio operator.

Brendan was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village, and St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Doris (nee Markstrom) of Hot Springs Village; two stepsons, David (Tara) Leithold of New Holstein, and Matthew (Heidi) Leithold of West Bend; and a step-daughter, Janet (William) Duncan of Monument, Calif.

He is further survived by his sister, Patricia Weisberg of Mil-waukee; three nephews, Robert (Renee) Cornin, Dr. Jan Weisberg and Robert Weisberg; and other relatives and friends.

Brendan was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, West Bend, with Rev. Jeffery Haines presiding.

Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation will be Friday at the church only from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
