James V. Mancuso
James V. Mancuso passed away suddenly at Bayview in St. Augustine, Fla. on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the age of 84.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Winnebago, Ill.
Gasparini and Oliveri Funeral Home in Rockford, Ill. is serving the Mancuso family.
James was born on May 12, 1923, the eldest son and one of four children to Joe and Lena Mancuso in Houghton, Mich. He was raised in Freda, Mich., moved to Cumberland and later to Milwaukee.
In 1942, Jim won the Milwaukee Golden Gloves. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served his country in the Pacific on the USS Maskoma Oil Tanker for the next two years.
After World War II, James boxed professionally and was undefeated until he retired from the sport.
James earned a bachelorís degree in accounting and enjoyed a successful 50-year career as a State Farm Insurance agent in Milwaukee.
James is survived by his son James (Robin) Mancuso of Palm Coast, Fla.; his brothers Dewey (Marge) Mancuso of Rockford, Ill. and Robert (Ann) Mancuso of Jacksonville, Fla.; his sister Phil (Bill) Camp of Rockford, Ill.; and his grandchildren Kaelin and Vincent Mancuso.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Averil.
