Norbert Martin Heise
Norbert Martin Heise, 88, of Fort Meyers, Fla., died on Jan. 25, 2008. He suffered a massive stroke and died from complications.
He was the first-born child of the late Martin and Renata (Rehm) Heise, who lived in the town of Scott. Norbert would have been 89 on Feb. 24, 2008.
Norbert graduated from Plymouth High School in 1938 and married his first wife, Evangeline Anna "Vannie" Krautkramer, on Nov. 14, 1942.
Shortly after high school he began his career as a licensed cheesemaker in Belgium, and in 1944 he went to work at the Beechwood Cheese Factory.
He became the first cheese-maker in Wisconsin to manufacture Monterey Jack cheese and the first to initiate the production of direct vat sets with Hansen Laboratories.
In 1952 he purchased the factory with his wife, and in 1976 he went into corporation with his son Mark.
Mrs. Heise died in a traffic accident on Jan. 9, 1986.
On Jan. 3 1987 he married Faith Leavitt.
Norbert retired from the cheese factory in 1987.
He was a member and director of the Beechwood Fire Depart-ment.
Norbert was an inventor, master of many trades and could fix anything.
His passion was fishing, and he enjoyed spending time on any lake, at any time with his grandchildren.
He was an accomplished woodworker, played the trumpet, accordion and concertina.
He was a charter member of the Beechwood Sportsman Club and champion trap shooter, amassing many trophies for his sharp eye.
He remained an avid Packer fan through all their ups and downs, rarely missing the chance to watch the game.
In his early 70s Norbert acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from Logos University in Bonita Springs, Fla. where he majored in archeology.
He eventually went on a dig in the Holy Land. During these late years in life he discovered he could paint and amazed people with his natural artistic watercolor abilities.
Norbert had a marvelous sense of humor and was known by all as the "Great Storyteller."
Survivors include his wife, Faith; two sons, Nyles (Beverly) of San Jose, Calif, and Mark (Kris) of Beechwood; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five stepchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
His brother, Willard preceded him in death.
Norbert was a giant of men and will be dearly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 1 p.m. at the Wittkopp-Schneider Funeral Home in Plymouth.
Friends may call on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
