Leo J. Resch, 89
Leo J. Resch, of the town of Wayne, slipped quietly into heaven on Aug. 19, 2008, at his home.
Leo was born on March 20, 1919, to the late Christian and Julia (Hess) on the family homestead in the town of Wayne.
He married the late Verna (Kell) on July 10, 1943, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church of the town of Wayne.
The couple lived on the homestead dairy farm and worked on the family farm.
Leo also received his insurance license and began writing insurance as a captive agent in the late 1940s.
In 1951, he started his own insurance agency, Leo Resch Agency, now known as Resch & Kiel Insurance Agency of the town of Wayne and Allenton, which is operated by his daughter, Diane, and her husband, Jon Kiel.
He served on the board of directors for Moraine Mutual of Jackson, and later served on the board of Wilson Mutual of Sheboygan of which he became the chairman of the board until his retirement.
During construction of Highway 41, Leo was also on the construction crew.
He loved gardening, cutting wood, playing cards, especially Hearts and Sheepshead, with his family and friends.
Leo was very knowledgeable and could identify and name any kind of tree.
Leo was a lifelong member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, served on the church council and as the financial secretary.
He was on the school board for the Wayne Elementary School, board member and financial backer of Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School, member of the Kohlsville Volunteer Fire Dept. and a charter member of the Allenton Lions Club.
Leo is survived by his children, David (Jane) of the town of Wayne, Diane (Jon) Kiel of the town of Wayne, grandchildren Kevin (Pam) Resch, Kerry Resch, Kim (Jim) Twohig, Ashley (fiancˇ Matt Dover) Kiel, Lindsey Kiel, great-grandchildren Leah and Ryan Resch. Further survived by two nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna; and two sisters, Grace Resch and Vern Hembel.
Funeral services for Leo will be at 4 p.m., Saturday at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church of the town of Wayne, 6430 Highway D, with the Rev. Steven D. Bode officiating.
Visitation will be at the church only on Saturday from noon until time of service, 4 p.m.
