Barbara M. Stern

Barbara M. Stern passed away with her family by her side on Nov. 26, 2008 after a long illness. She was born on Jan. 7, 1941 to the late Robert and Mabel (nee Bast) Fuge.

She married Warren Stern shortly after high school and they raised their family in West Bend. The family will always remember their many ski trips together. Barbara was very supportive of the familyís devotion to ski coaching and ski racing and kept things running behind the scenes. She was well known for her egg-salad sandwiches, which she packed before every race. She welcomed into her home all of their friends and teammates.

She was first a mother to three and second a mother to many.

She loved her garden and decorating her home and spent many afternoons in the pool with the family. In recent years, she and her husband spent part of the winter in the Florida Keys, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a lifelong member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church. She will be deeply missed and always loved by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Warren; children, Scott (Christine), Timothy (Lori) and Sarah (significant other Steve Kisting); a grandchild, Madeline Stern and step-grandchildren, Jeremy and Tyler Lauters, all of West Bend; sister-in-law, Ann Fuge of Clintonville; brother, Robert (Lynn) Fuge of West Bend; brothers-in-law, Bill (Nor-ma) of Inverness, Fla. and Bernie Stern of West Bend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mabel Fuge; her brother, David Fuge; and her parents-in-law, Rudy and Marge Stern.

Funeral services will be held at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6:45 p.m. with a service at 7.

Burial will be Wednesday in Washington County Memorial Park.

Memorials are appreciated to the St. Johnís Elementary Tuition Grant Fund.

The family would like to thank the staff and the many specialists at the Wisconsin Heart Hospital and her doctor, Robert Gibson, for their loving care of her during this difficult time.
