Marie Puntney of Arlington passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at Sienna Crest Assisted Living in Fort Atkinson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. The Rev. Marion Hendrickson will officiate at the service. Visitation will be held this evening, Dec. 9, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home, 426 E. Washington St., in Poynette. Visitation will also be held at the church on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery in Poynette, following the service.
Marie was born on March 12, 1931 in the town of Arlington, the daughter of Frank and Aleda (Jameson) Schroder. She married Everett Puntney on June 27, 1953 in Poynette, and together they farmed for over 35 years on the family farm on the Arlington Prairie. She worked for many years as a secretary at Poynette High School and later as a bookkeeper at the Poynette McDonald’s. She was a lifelong church organist, playing at several area churches over the years, including Dekorra, Poynette and Sauk City. Marie also enjoyed playing the accordion, entertaining at area nursing homes, community and neighborhood events. She had been clerk for the town of Arlington, a 4-H leader for many years and enjoyed her involvement with the county fair activities. She was a member of the Stitch-and-Chatter Homemakers Group, enjoyed playing cards with her neighbors, camping and spending time with her family. Marie was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington and active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
Marie is survived by her five children, William (Karen) Puntney, Monona, Diane (Robert) Kitzerow, Cedarburg, Francis (Rhonda) Puntney, Burlington, Glenn (Pamela) Puntney, Lodi, and Lori (Gary) Held, Ft. Atkinson; her 12 grandchildren, Darren, James and Tracey Puntney, Lane Emerick, Robyn (Robert) Gray, Katherine (Matthew) Barry, Claire Kitzerow, Bethany Puntney, Riley and Cody Puntney, and Jacob and Grady Held; her great-grandson, Trevor Gray; two nephews, Dwane (Ruth Ann) Kreisler and Dillard Kreisler, both of Lincoln, Mo.; other near relatives and many close friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett; and daughter-in-law, Julie Barnes.
