Edward C. Melius, 92

Edward C. Melius, 92, of the town of Polk, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Edward was born on Feb. 17, 1916, to Christ and Bertha (Kurtz) in Jackson.

He farmed with his three brothers - Melius Brothers Farms.

Ed married Ethel "Betsy" (Nehm) on Jan. 19, 1946, and they raised their family on the farm.

He was the assessor for the town of Polk for 32 years (1954-1986) and was on the board of directors for Golden Guernsey Dairy Co-op of Waukesha County for 10 years.

Ed enjoyed watching sports, especially the Milwauke Braves, Brewers, Green Bay Packers, University of Wisconsin Badgers and the Milwaukee Bucks.

He was a 40-year member of the Holstein Association, 25-year member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association of Washington County, serving as secretary and treasurer. Also, he was a lifetime member of Faith United Church of Christ and served on the consistory and cemetery committee.

Ed is survived by his children, Ronald of Slinger, Marcia (Kerry) Doyle of Sheboygan Falls and Brian of Jackson. Further survived by his grandchildren, John Peter (Gwen) Doyle, Rose Ellen Doyle, Leah Ceee (Donald) Boomsma, George Christian Doyle, Kerry Doyle and Dustin Melius; great-grandchildren, Christian James Doyle, Evelyn Elizabeth Doyle; brothers, Arthur Melius and Frederick (Lin) Melius; sisters, Marian Kuhaupht and Florence Foerster; on Betsy’s side, sister-in-law, Carolyn Madrich; brothers-in-law, Elmer Mierendorf and Franklin Schall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betsy; son, Dale; brother, Harry (Doris) Melius; three brothers-in-law, Howard Kuhaupht, Louis Foerster and Earl Madrich; three sisters-in-law, Betsy Melius, Marjorie Schall and Lois Mierendorf.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith United Church of Christ, 2895 Slinger Road, Slinger, with the Rev. Sharon Stier officiating.

Interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery of Hartford.

Visitation will be at the church only on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until time of service, 1:30 p.m.
