Brandon Lee Berger

Brandon Lee Berger of Slinger passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at the age of 19 years.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1989 in Milwaukee to Kenneth K. and Julie A. (nee Petranek).

Brandon was raised his entire life in Slinger, attending St. Peterís Catholic Elementary School, Slinger Middle School, Slinger High School Class of 2008, and attended UW-Oshkosh, majoring in criminal justice. His long-term goal was to be a U.S. marshall for the United States government.

He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 3739 at St. Peter from first grade through fifth grade, Boy Scout Troop 741 at St. Kilian in Hartford, and on March 29, 2007 at the age of 17 years and in his junior year of high school, he achieved the highest award possible in Boy Scouts: Eagle Scout. .

Brandon loved to play soccer, enjoyed fishing and had a passion for hot rods with his father. He was a four-year varsity letter-winner in wrestling, and was a regional and sectional qualifier all four years. He was the conference champ his sophomore year, and by his senior year, he was in the 100- Win Club for wrestling. Brandon also excelled in track, being a four-year letter winner for pole vaulting. In his senior year, he was a state championship qualifier, with a personal best of 14-feet, 3-inches. He also lettered in cross country his senior year, which was the first year he went out for that sport.

Brandon is survived by his parents and a sister, Breanne. He is further survived by his grandmothers, June B. Berger of Hustisford and Blanche E. Petranek of Rhinelander; an aunt, Penneelee F. (Lonnie F.) Perkop of Iron Mountain, Mich.; a great aunt, Lillian M. Chiesa of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and his cousin, Shellee M. Perkop of Iron Mountain, Mich.; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Kenneth L. Berger and William E. Petranek; and a cousin Kimberlee A. Perkop.

He was almost like a brother to Lindsay M. Weiss.

A memorial fund is being set up for the Brandon L. Berger Memorial to be presented to the Slinger High School Wrestling Team.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at St. Peter Catholic Church of Slinger with the Rev. Richard J. Stoffel officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church only from 2 to 6:45 p.m. Cremation will be at Paradise Cremations. Placement at New St. Peterís Cemetery.

The Phillip Funeral Home of Slinger is assisting the family.
