Brandon L. Berger, 19
Brandon Lee Berger of Slinger passed away unexpectedly Saturday Dec. 13, 2008, at the age of 19.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1989, in Milwaukee to Kenneth K. and Julie A. (Petranek).
Brandon was raised his entire life in Slinger, attending St. Peterís Catholic Elementary School. Sling-er Middle School, Slinger High School, class of 2008, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, majoring in criminal justice.
His long-term goal was to be a U.S. marshall for the United States government.
He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 3739 at St. Peterís from first grade through fifth grade, Boy Scout Troop 741 at St. Kalianís in Hartford, and on March 29, 2007, at the age of 17 years, and in his junior year of high school, he achieved the highest award possible in Boy Scouts, the Eagle Scout.
Brandon loved to play soccer, enjoyed fishing, and had a passion for hot rods with his father. He was a four-year varsity letter winner in wrestling, and was a regional and sectional qualifier all four years. He was the conference champ his sophomore year and by his senior year, he was in the 100 Win Club for wrestling.
Brandon also excelled in track, being a four-year letter winner for pole vaulting. In his senior year, he was a state championship qualifier, with a personal best of 14í3".
He also lettered in cross-country his senior year, which was the first year he went out for that sport.
Brandon is survived by his parents, and Big Brother to Breanne.
He is further survived by his grandmother, June B. Berger of Hustisford; grandmother, Blanche E. Petranek of Rhinelander; aunt, Penneelee F. (Lonnie F.) Perkop of Iron Mountain, Mich.; great-aunt, Lillian M. Chiesa of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and his cousin Shellee M. Perkop of Iron Mountain; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Kenneth L. Berger and William E. Petranek; cousin, Kimberlee A. Perkop. He was almost like a brother to Lindsay M. Weiss.
A memorial fund is being set up for the Brandon L. Berger Memorial, to be presented to the Slinger High School Wrestling Team.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Peterís Catholic Church of Slinger with Fr. Richard J. Stoffel officiating.
Visitation will be today at the church only from 2 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.
Cremation will be done by Paradise Cremations with placement at the New St. Peterís Cemetery.
