Martin G. Steinbach

Martin G. Steinbach, 93, of the town of Wayne, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 at Virginia Highlands Health and Rehabili-tation Center in Germantown.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1914 in the town of Theresa to the late Henrich and Helene (nee Zell) Steinbach.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Pamperin on Oct. 17, 1942 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in the town of Wayne.

Martin farmed for 17 years and then worked at Bend Industries for 20 years until his retirement.

He was a longtime member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and served as custodian of the Zion Church Cemetery for 35 years.

He was an honorary member of the Kohlsville Fire Department after serving 30 years as an active member.

Martin enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and cooking maple syrup.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Elaine (Gerald) Schulz, Rosanne (Glen) Kjornes and Lorene (special friend Dan Voge) Higgins; 10 grandchildren, Susette (Marv) Brueggeman, Thomas Schulz, Daniel Schulz, Gerald (Kari) Kjornes, Steven (Christine) Kjor-nes, Barbara (Ryan) Dohm, Christine Kjornes, Linda (Terry) Gallet, Lynn Wieting, and Paul (Kim) Voge; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Steinbach and Lorraine Stein-bach; a special family friend, Lisa Seefeldt; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jeanette Schulz; a great-grandson, Christopher Wieting; five sisters, Verona (Henry) Bellin, Irene Steinbach, Ethel (Wilbert) Engelhardt, Flora (Christian) Seefeldt and Gertrude (Paul) Pamperin; and two brothers, Lother Steinbach and Edward Steinbach.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 4 p.m. at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, 6438 Highway D, town of Wayne.

Rev. Steven Bode will officiate, and burial will be in Zion Church Cemetery on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
