Robert C. Giddings

Robert C. Giddings age 75 of Jackson died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008 at The Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.

He was born Dec. 18, 1932 in the town of Maretto in Crawford County to the late Otto and Caroline (nee Hudson) Giddings and married Marion Hawkins (nee Pemble) on Oct. 8, 1977 at St. Johns Interdenominational Church in Milwaukee.

Bob served in the United States Marine Corps in Korea where he was a prisoner of war for 22 months. Following his discharge he settled in Milwaukee where he worked for his brother Bill. He later became a part owner of All State Maintenance before selling his stake in the business to go into business with his step-son Edward. They formed Giddings and Hawkins Maintenance Inc. He later went into semi-retirement and sold his portion of the business but stayed on as the vice-president of sales remaining in that position until the time of his death.

While living in Milwaukee he and his wife were members of St. Johns Interdenominational Church. He was an active volunteer in their church singing in the choir, ushering and reading Bible scriptures during services.

Bob was a member of the SSgt. Henry F. Gumm Post 486 American Legion in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Marion, a step-son Edward (Corrine) Hawkins of Loana, Wis., a granddaughter and three great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three brothers, Kenneth (Joyce), Richard and Melvin, all of Wisconsin; two sisters, Kathy Parr and Phyliss Cocoa, both of California; two brothers-in-law, James (Ruthie) Pemble of Franklin and Jack (Kathy) Pemble of Tipler; a sister-in-law, Betty Wren of Jackson, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Bob also leaves behind his special four-legged friend, Prince William Superstar. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Caroline, his son Johnny Giddings, a step-brother Bill Giddings and a nephew Clay Giddings.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Jackson with Rev. Paul Mittermaier officiating. SSgt. Henry F. Gumm Post 486 American Legion walk through will be at 6:30 p.m.

Cremation will follow with inurnment in Rose Hill Cemetery in Iron River, Mich. Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.
