Ardis Estes Cordts

Funeral services will be held for Ardis Estes Cordts of Grafton at 6 p.m. on Feb. 1 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St. in Grafton. Ardis died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 after a long illness, at the age of 90. Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Friday, from 4 p.m. until the funeral service. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton assisted the family with the arrangements.

Ardis was born to parents Walter and Effa (nee Edwards) Estes on Oct. 29, 1917 in Moore, Mont.

After graduation from Moore High School in 1935, Ardis worked as a secretary in Great Falls, Mont. and in San Francisco, Calif. It was in San Francisco that she joined the Army as a WAC, serving the U.S. in the South Pacific during World War II. After military service, Ardis attended the University of Montana under the GI Bill, graduating in 1950. It was at the university that she met Howard Cordts, and they were married in Lewiston, Mont. on Aug. 28, 1950.

Ardis had a passion for writing and spent many hours at her desk. She had many articles published and wrote a book about her son Michael. Ardis also loved to sing and had an excellent voice. She sang in the choir at St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 35 years.

Ardis was the beloved wife of Howard, and the loving, sweet mother of Shirley, and will be especially missed and never forgotten by them. She is further survived by other relatives and many friends who will also remember and miss her. Ardis was preceded in death by her son Michael, and her three brothers and three sisters.
