Irene A. Walter, 89, of Watertown, passed away Thursday evening, July 10, 2008, at Mar-quardt Memorial Manor in Watertown following a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown, with Fr. Brian Wilk, officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Angels Catholic Ceme-tery in West Bend.

Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.  

Memorials may be directed to St. Henry’s Catholic Grade School or to the Lebanon EMS.

Irene Anna Kocher was born in West Bend on June 8, 1919, daughter of Paul and Sarah (McGinnis) Kocher.

Irene graduated from West Bend High School in 1937.

On Feb. 18, 1939, Irene married Robert G. Walter at Holy Angels Parsonage in West Bend. They farmed most of their lives in the town of Emmet and were married 58 years.

Robert preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1997. 

She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown and the Watertown Senior Citizens Center.

She loved spending time with family and friends and spending winters in Mesa, Ariz. Irene enjoyed playing sheepshead and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her four sons, James (Carol) Walters of Watertown; Richard (Susan) Walter of Watertown; Kenneth (Paulette) Walter of Bakersfield, Calif.; John (Patrice) Walter of Wa-tertown; her daughter, Judith (Larry) Reykdal of Watertown;  seven grandchildren, Christoph and Sarah Walters; Barbara Kopplin, Janet (James) Canino; Erica Bakeman, Caleb and Ethan Walter; three great-grandchildren, Jessica and Benja-min Kopplin; Brittany Helms; two sisters, Marian Bohn and Mar-guerite Lorenz, both of West Bend, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 Irene was further preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Kocher; father-in-law Christoph Walter, mother-in-law, Anna Walter; brothers-in-law, Phil Bohn, Henry Lorenz, Millard Laubenheimer and a sister-in-law, Marie Laubenheimer Hughes.
