Vilas A. Schroeter

Vilas A. Schroeter, 73, of N564 Schroeter Drive, (Silver Creek) Random Lake, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Heritage Health and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington where he had been a resident the past two years.

He was born on March 14, 1935, in Silver Creek to Alfred and Selma Risse Schroeter. He grew up working on the family farm.

He graduated from Random Lake High School and Lakeland College.

He served his country with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany in the mid-1950s.

He returned home and married Donna M. Michaels from West Bend on June 14, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend. They had just celebrated 50 years together.

He continued to farm in Silver Creek; raising his family, tending his herd of registered Brown Swiss and crops. In 1985, he was diagnosed with Parkinsonís disease.

For many years he continued to persevere until his retirement in 2000.

He had been very active with the former St. Paulís Lutheran Church of Silver Creek and its church council and the Silver Creek Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; children Steve (Nancy Loose) Schroeter of Silver Creek, Sherri (Jim) Melichar of the town of Port Washington, Shelly (Randy) Bell of the town of Saukville and Scott (Jenny) Schroeter of Manitowoc; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (fiancť Dustin Hoppenjan), Eric, Jason and Hallie Schroeter, Adam (Kendall) and Bradley Melichar and Logan Bell; two brothers, Lyle (Gertrude) Schroeter of West Bend and Delmar (Nancy) Schroeter of Silver Creek; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Boblin; and two grandchildren, Jessica Schroeter and Justin Bell.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Monday at Zion United Methodist Church, N1667 Highway 28, in Batavia. Pastor Gail Mitchell will officiate.

Interment will take place in St. Paul"s Lutheran Cemetery, Silver Creek.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday at the church.

Poole Funeral Home, Port Washington, is assisting the family.
