Verna Louise Eastep Baumann

Verna Louise Eastep Baumann passed away June 10 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Acheson of Ivoryton, Conn.

Mr. and Mrs. Baumann were residents of the West Bend area for more than 60 years.

She was born in Enstead, W. Va., and graduated from Marshall College, having studied to be a concert pianist. She became a portrait photographer in New York City and eventually moved to Milwaukee where she met and married Martin E. W. Baumann.

Upon arrival in West Bend in 1945, Verna involved herself in many of the area’s women’s organizations. She served as secretary of the Women’s Club and for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Milwaukee for many years.

Verna and Martin were active members of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Altar Guild. She also served as secretary to the Superintendent of the West Bend Public Schools.

Following her husband’s death four years ago, Verna joined her daughter and son-in-law at their home in Ivoryton, Conn.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda, son-in-law, David, three grandchildren, Sarah Rand of Mt. Kisco, N.Y., Morgan Acheson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Lisa DeVaughan of Alexandria, Va. and James Baumann of Pica-yune, Miss., and one great-grandchild, Max Ellis Rand of Mt. Kisco.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 5 p.m. at St.

John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bend with the Rev. George Mumm officiating.  Entombment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.  Visitation will be at the church only on Tuesday from 4 until 4:45 p.m.
