Calvin H. "Cal" Scherger
Calvin H. "Cal" Scherger, 79, of West Bend, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 18, 2008.
He was born Aug. 6, 1928, in Hartford to the late Adolph and Alma (nee Hoepner) Scherger, and was raised in the Hartford area.
Calvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served seven years, including during the Korean Conflict.
After the service, Calvin returned to Hartford and became employed at Wisconsin Electric Co. for over 40 years.
On Aug. 18, 1956, Calvin married Donna M. Doll at St. Killian Church in Hartford and they began their family living in Menomonee Falls and later West Bend.
He loved fishing, playing sports in high school, snowmobiling and boating.
Cal would never say no to helping others and was the man who could fix anything.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and listening to his grandchildren’s laughter.
Cal loved his dog, Tiny.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; son, Greg (Kathy) of Richfield, daughters, Karen (Wes) MacFarlane of West Bend and Lori (Michael) Chapel of West Bend, sons, Jeff (Nicole) of Allenton and Randy (Nicole) of Theresa.
He is further survived by his grandchildren, Angela (Chad) Elliott, Amanda Martz, Kaitlyn and Gregory Scherger, Shannon (fiance Jeff McDowell) and Meghan MacFarlane, Jacob, Benjamin and Matthew Chapel and Stella Scherger; great-granddaughters, Kortni and Alexa Elliott; his aunt, Leona Erdman; a brother-in-law, Hubert Doll; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held at noon on Saturday, March 22, at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend. Visitation was Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Cremation took place at Paradise Cremation Services, West Bend, and inurnment was in Washington County Memorial Park Cemetery in West Bend.
