Funeral services for Irene Schwengel (nee Wolff) were held at Faith Lutheran Church in Cedarburg on May 16.
Irene passed away on May 13, 2008 at the age of 93.
Interment took place at Immanuel Cemetery. The Rev. John Norquist officiated and Mueller Funeral Home made the arrangements.
A lifelong resident of the area, Irene was born May 11, 1915, the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Uhlig) Wolff on the family farm in Germantown.
She married Harry Schwengel on July 31, 1943. They lived and raised their family in Cedarburg.
Throughout the years she worked at various jobs including the Gilbert Shoe Co. and Doerr Electric. She was an active volunteer at Family Sharing of Ozaukee County, where she was recognized for her many years of service.
Irene was a faithful member and volunteer at Faith Lutheran Church where she helped to establish the congregation in the 1950s.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and was renowned for her large flower, berry and vegetable gardens and outstanding baking.
Irene’s beloved husband Harry preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by son Dr. James (Judy) Schwengel; daughter Karen (the late James) Borchardt; and son Dr. Robert (Louise) Schwengel. She was a loving grandma to Christy (Robert Knotts), Bill, Jennifer, Eric and Amanda Schwengel, and Brenda (Jeff) Bryl. Great-granddaughters Sierra and Skylar Bryl brought her special joy. She is further survived by brother-in-law Roland (Delores) Schwengel and many other family and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by brothers Oscar and Hugo Wolff, sisters Milda Wolff, Martha Sekas, Hertha Musbach and granddaughter Susan Schwengel.
In later years, Irene and her husband resided at Lasata Heights and then at Lasata Care Center. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the skilled, loving staff at Lasata.
