Gary J. Hupfer

Gary J. Hupfer, 73 of West Bend died Saturday, May 24, 2008 surrounded by his family at Synergy Health St. Joseph’s Hospital in the town of Polk.

He was born July 27, 1934 in Milwaukee to the late John and Katherine (nee Ketterer) Hupfer, and married Barbara Jane Wagner on April 6, 1973 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Gary worked at the Gehl Co. for many years.

He enjoyed playing the saxophone in the Admiral’s Band while serving in the U.S. Navy and also in the Hartford City Band.

He was a member of the Camera Clique in West Bend and will be missed by all of his friends.

He enjoyed gardening, visiting the casino and the company of his little dog, Trixie.

Gary was very well known for his sense of humor and will be missed by all.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; five children, Bruce (Kathi) Hupfer of Colorado Springs, Colo., Diane (Jay) Schaab of Woodstock, Ill., Mary Kaye (Bill) Raddatz of St. Petersburg, Fla., Connie (Mike) Schultz of Berlin and Christian (Heidi) Wagner of West Bend; and nine grandchildren, Melanie Hupfer, Nathan Schaab, Natalie Schaab, Krista Malchow, Jennifer Wagner, Bailey Wagner, Patti Schultz, Matthew Schultz and Chad Schultz.

He is further survived by his sister, Judie (Bill) Hulbert of Kennesaw, Ga.; his dear aunt, Norma Hesse of West Bend; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gordon.

Gary’s family is going to follow his wish and not have a funeral. They will instead have a party with beer and polka music in his memory at a later date.

Gary’s family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to all of the emergency personnel from the Fillmore and Newburg fire departments and also the doctors and nurses in the St. Joseph’s emergency room and ICU departments for the compassionate care given to Gary. We would also like to acknowledge and show our appreciation to our family doctor, Dr. Gary Preisler for his care these past years.
