Warren A. Heckner, 86

Warren A. "Sarge" Heckner, 86, of West Bend died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Cedar Community Hospice.

Warren was born on Dec. 4, 1921, to Joseph and Bessie (Fiege) Heckner in Milwaukee.

He attended North Division High School, class of 1939. He worked for a short time after high school and was a musician with a big band.

Warren then entered the U.S. Marine Corps During World War II, serving the Pacific Theater in the 1st Marine Division, then continued his military career in the U.S. Marine Reserves until his transfer to the U.S. Army 84th Division Band.

During that time, he married Audrey (Bogs) on June 29, 1946, and they began their family.

Warren began his professional career as an inspector for the Allen Bradley Co., retiring in 1986.

The couple then moved to Cedar Community.

He enjoyed jazz, big band, military music and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Johnís UCC of Slinger.

"Sarge" is survived by his children, Katie Simpson of Waukesha and Peggy Heckner of West Allis. Further survived by two grandchildren, Rob (Valerie) Simpson of Colorado and Rebecca (Eric) Jenecourt of Canada; brother, George (Rosemary) Holtz of England; brother-in-law, George Bogs of Alabama; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey; infant great-grandson, Julian; and sisters-in-law.

A memorial service for "Sarge" will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Fr. Scott R. Leannah officiating.

Cremation at Paradise Cremation Services.
