Eleanor W. Nielsen, 89

Eleanor W. Nielsen entered the life eternal Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at the age of 89.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., to Jacob and Theresa (Boehm) Weiss, moving to Chippewa Falls at age 6 where she attended both elementary and high school.

She began her college career at the University of Chicago, later transferring to and graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelorís of art degree in history.

Following graduation in 1941, she married Chester I. Nielsen Jr.

After her husbandís service in the U.S. Army, they settled in West Bend and had five children.

Eleanor was active in a number of local groups over the years as well as her church, Trinity Lutheran, in West Bend.

She took great pride as a long-time and very involved member of the St. Josephís Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies), West Bend Columns Scholarship Foundation and the West Bend Womenís Club, among others.

She was also one of the first members of the local YMCA board that became the Kettle Moraine YMCA.

As for other outside activities, Eleanor had enjoyed her bowling league and Penguin Dance Club, as well as her lifelong passion for bridge.

Upon the death of her husband in 1965, Eleanor succeeded her husband as president of Wesbar Corp. and remained as president and chairman from 1965 to 1987.

While she credited her talented managers and loyal, industrious work force for the successes, the company grew eightfold under her leadership.

A loving mother and ardent supporter, she is survived by her sons, Chet (Maribeth) and Mark (Cynthia) of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Todd (Carolyn) of West Bend; and daughters Nancy (Robert) Nemec, of Bonita Springs and Barbara (Douglas) Hambleton of Winnetka, Ill. She is further survived by 11 grandchildren, Laura (James) Hyland, Heidi, Chester IV, Nicholas (Wendy), Elizabeth and Scott Nielsen, Kristin (Adam) Frazier and Julie Nemec, Catherine, Elizabeth and Andrew Hambleton; and one great-granddaughter, Annie Hyland.

She is further survived by her brother, Arthur (Mary Jane) Weiss; brother-in-law, William (Margaret) Nielsen; sister-in-law, Florence (Nielsen) Barrington; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, parents and brother, John Weiss.

Visitation will be Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 140 N. Seventh Ave., West Bend, from 9 a.m. to noon. A memorial service and celebration of Eleanorís life will follow at noon.

Private inurnment will be held in the Washington County Memorial Park.
