Peter A. Schmitt

Peter A. Schmitt of Rubicon passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008. He was 79 years old.

He was born in Rubicon on Sept. 6, 1929, to Frank and Anna (Kiefer) Schmitt.

He married Margaret Mary Schumacher on Nov. 7, 1959, at St. Johnís Catholic Church in Rubicon. 

Peter worked the family farm until retiring in 1993. He worked at Lee Precision until spring of 2008.

He was an avid fan of Rubicon baseball games. He looked forward to his annual trip to Las Vegas , playing cards, and spending time with family.

He was always willing to lend a hand to family and neighbors.

Peter was a member of St. Johnís Catholic Church in Rubicon and was actively involved with the church. He was a member of the Catholic Knights and St. Johnís Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Margaret Mary; eight children, Mary (Ally) Rusch, Lucille (Jim) Becker, Roger (Lisa), Paul (Hollie), Mark (Karen), Denise (Steven) Klink, Joyce (Allen) Bartelt, Gloria (Tom) Werner; 29 grandchildren, Mandy (Daniel/Boomer) Tews II, Melanie (Christopher) Friday, Michelle (Chadwick) Beeler, Adam, Aaron and Anna Rusch, Dawn (Kenneth) Gault, Stephanie and Jenna Becker, Jeremy (Dana Rublee) and Justin (Brittany Kirchoff) Schmitt; Colten, Katelynn, Austin, Kristen, Sheridan and Jordyn Schmitt, Kayla, Brianna and Zachary Schmitt, Nicole, Kurt and Jill Klink, Joshua, Ashley and Taylor Bartelt, Cody and Cade Werner, Jessica Kuczkowski; eight great-grandchildren, Lexi and Daniel (Wally) Tews III, Andrew and Aaron Gault, Mason and Hailey Beeler, and Kuczkowski children; his brothers and sisters, Clarence Schmitt, Jerome (Helen) Schmitt, Marie Kraemer, Dolores Lindemann, Josephine (Norman) Baus; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jerry (Jeannette) Schumacher, Pat Baus, Celia (Dave) Dukelow and Mary Lou Gauthier.

Peter is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by brothers, sisters and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian burial for Peter will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Johnís Catholic Church in Rubicon with Fr. Al Van Beek officiating.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Shimon Funeral Home in Hartford and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Monday.

Interment at St. Johnís Cemetery , Rubicon.
