He enjoyed tinkering with electronics, motorcycle riding, playing sheepshead, and watching the History Channel, especially shows on World War II.

Robert is survived by two sons, Robert (Kay) Flanders of the town of Belgium and Michael (Sue) Flanders of Cedarburg; and four grandchildren, Jimmy (Jesse) Jochims of Oostburg, Michelle Flanders of Cedarburg, and Emily and Tyler Flanders of the town of Belgium. He is further survived by two brothers, Daniel (Judy) Flanders of Fond du Lac and Al (Emily) Flanders of California; one sister, Linda (Bill) Loehr of Fond du Lac; his former wife, Nancy Flanders of the town of Belgium; and other relatives and many friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Virginia; and one brother, William "Bill" Flanders.
