Robert Flanders of Port Washington passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon. He was 65. Funeral services for Robert were held on Oct. 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. The family received visitors on Monday at the church, prior to the service. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington assisted the family with the arrangements.
Robert was born Oct. 8, 1943 in Fond du Lac, the son of Lee and Virginia Sperdeck Flanders. On Jan. 2, 1965, he was united in marriage to Nancy Fenske in Mt. Calvary.
After residing in various communities in northern Ozaukee County, Robert moved to Port Washington 10 years ago. He had currently worked for Johnson Bus Company in Port Washington as a school bus driver, and enjoyed seeing the children on his route every day. Robert had formerly worked at Simplicity. An avid airplane fan, he owned his own plane and often attended EAA fly-ins in Oshkosh. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics, motorcycle riding, playing sheepshead, and watching the History Channel, especially shows on World War II.
Robert is survived by two sons, Robert (Kay) Flanders of the town of Belgium and Michael (Sue) Flanders of Cedarburg; and four grandchildren, Jimmy (Jesse) Jochims of Oostburg, Michelle Flanders of Cedarburg, and Emily and Tyler Flanders of the town of Belgium. He is further survived by two brothers, Daniel (Judy) Flanders of Fond du Lac and Al (Emily) Flanders of California; one sister, Linda (Bill) Loehr of Fond du Lac; his former wife, Nancy Flanders of the town of Belgium; and other relatives and many friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Virginia; and one brother, William "Bill" Flanders.
