Hugh A. Otten, 85
Hugh A. Otten of Racine, formerly of
Barton, died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at age 85. He was born on Feb. 8,
1923, in Barton to the late Anthony H. and Cecelia M. (Henry) Otten.
After graduating from West Bend High School, he enlisted in the United
States Army. Following his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin and
attended the University of Wi s c o n s i n - O s h ko s h where he
received his teaching certificate. He taught at Slinger High School, and
for 35 years was a teacher at Racine St. Catherine’s High School,
retiring in the early 1990s.
In addition to teaching, he enjoyed playing cards, spending time in
northern Wisconsin and loved to travel the country by car.
He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Society at St. Mary’s Immaculate
Conception Catholic Parish in West Bend.
Survivors include one brother, Eugene (Susan) of West Bend; one sister
Rose Ann (Charles) Hunt of Suwanee, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Janet Otten
of Slinger and Elizabeth "Betty" Otten of West Bend; one
brother-in-law, Dale King of Colgate; nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Gaedtke and Mary King;
and two brothers, Sylvester and Leo.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St.
Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Moran and
Fr. Robert Bales presiding.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery (old).
The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Friday
from 1 until 2 p.m.
The family has requested memorials to the St. Mary’s School Endowment
Fund.
