Daniel L. Hoye, 86

Daniel L. Hoye, 86, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Milwaukee to the late Oliver and Catherine (Barsch) Hoye and married Mary E. Dooley on April 14, 1965, in Dodge County.

Dan graduated from Messmer High School in Milwaukee in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and fought with the 82nd Airborne Division in Europe as a paratrooper, squad leader and a demolition specialist.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary; seven children, Diane Pera of Milwaukee, Rick (Dianna) of West Des Moines, Iowa, Tim of Milwaukee, Kathleen (John) Glaser of Shorewood, Daniel of Oconomowoc, Kelly (Pete) Rettler of West Bend and Mike (Lisa) of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; and 13 grandchildren, Marc, Sean, Kyle, Megan, Chelsea, Ryan, Jack, Drew, Max, Nicholas, Madelyn, Delaney and Campbell.

Dan is further survived by his sister, Pat (Leo) Kieffer of Caribou, Maine; three sisters-in-law, Lil Hoye of Menomonee Falls, Patricia Dudash of Port Washington and Doris (Tom) Jagiello of Sussex; his special friend, Tom Sitter of Madison; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Hoye; an infant son; his brother, Jack; and two sisters, Marilyn Hoye and Kathleen Backus.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend with the Rev. Gerald Brittain presiding.

Visitation will be Friday, at the church only from 6 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.

Danís family is going to abide by his wishes and donate his body to the Medical College of Wisconsin.
