Norbert P. Schellinger, 90

Norbert P. Schellinger of Hartford passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford. He was 90 years old.

Norbert was born on March 28, 1918, in the town of Addison to Arthur and Barbara (Mueller) Schellinger.

He married Dolores Ritger on Aug. 24, 1940. She preceded him in death.

On Dec. 7, 1994 Norbert was united in marriage to Ruth Hahn Hansen at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford.

Norbert was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years and volunteered for many other church functions.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Norbert was a member of the Hartford V.F.W. Post 8834 and the C o u r t n e y - C a r r- M i l n e r American Legion Post 19 where he served as the local adjutant for many years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered his time at the Hartford Auto Museum.

He loved crafts, especially ceramics. Norbert enjoyed photography, traveling, cooking and fishing.

He retired from the Hartford Booster after 30 years of service.

Norbert is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children, Mary Schellinger (friend Robert Campbell) of Washington, D.C., and Lee (Patti) Schellinger of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Theodore; a great-granddaughter; his stepchildren, David (Maureen) Hansen of Hartford, Janice (James) Rettler of Hartford, Robert Hansen (friend Jane Bamke) of Hartford, Thomas (Carolyn) Hansen of Smyrma Tenn., James (Mary) Hansen of Streamwood Ill., Mary (James) Gutschenritter of Rubicon, Lisa (William) Schickert of Jefferson, Kurt (Roxy) Hansen of Middleton and Brenda (Dan) Schulz of Mayville. Norbert is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dolores, and a stepdaughter, Linda. Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford, with Fr. David LaPlante officiating.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church. Inurnment at St. Kilian Cemetery, Hartford.
