Shirley Frank, 86, of Pewaukee, formerly of Jackson, died peacefully with immediate family at her side on Monday, March 30, 2009, at Oconomowoc Hospital in Oconomowoc.
She was born on Nov. 22, 1922, in West Bend to the late Willard and Esther Ickstadt.
Shirley was a long-time resident of Jackson where she and her late husband Delbert Frank ran the popular Frank’s Tavern for over 54 years. The couple took over the bar and restaurant in 1947 and the business became a fixture in the community for years to come.
The popular establishment was known for great food, including Shirley’s daily lunch specials, awesome hamburgers and the best fish fry in the area. She was widely known and loved by many generations of customers and friends. Her endearing personality allowed her to develop lasting relationships with people regardless of age or life circumstance.
Shirley was a true matriarch within the community. She took great pride in many areas of service. She was a 64-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered in many community and civic organizations. She was also a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Over the past five years, Shirley has lived at Kirkland Crossings, a senior living facility in Pewaukee. During this time of new beginnings she made many friends and enjoyed lots of activities including weekly card games and various group outings.
She will be fondly remembered by family as a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her friends will remember her as a beautiful soul always willing to listen and lend her support wherever needed. She gave so much more than she ever asked in return.
Survivors include two sons, Tom (Judi) of State College, Pa., and Joel (Lisa) of Oconomowoc; five grandchildren, Drew (Phoenicia), Nicole (Tom), Jonathan, Samuel and Jordyn; a great-granddaughter, April; a sister, Joyce (Cyril) Kluever, of New London; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Delbert, and two brothers, Buddy and William.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Jackson with the Rev. Charles Turbin officiating.
