Stanley "Stan" E. Hughes

Stanley "Stan" E. Hughes, 92, of the town of Farmington, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009, at his home.

Stan was born on April 25, 1916, in Calgary Alta Canada to Arthur and Ruth (nee Derr) Hughes. He graduated from business college and began serving in the U.S. Army, WWII, from 1942 to 1945 as a draftsman general. Stan was primarily employed with the U.S. Government as a cartographer. He married Virginia I. Sauer on July 4, 1986, at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Stan was a member of VFW Post No. 1393, past department commander for the state of Maryland, past district commander for the state of Wisconsin, Military Order of Cootis, Moose Lodge No. 1398, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1964.

Stan is survived by his wife, Virginia; children Peri Ann (Robert) Moisant, Stanley Jr., Kathy (John) Nowlin and Linda; step-children Gilbert (Mary) Sauer, William (Christine) Sauer, Kathleen (Robert) Lendosky, Susan (David) Rose, Mary (Leon) Voigt and John (Gwen) Sauer. He is further survived by 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald; sisters-in-law, Sister Elsa Metternich SSND, Elizabeth Lepkowski, Sister Lucille Sauer SSSF, Agnes Metternich and Carol Sauer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur; one step-daughter and one step-grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, April 6, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Brittian officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at Fairmount Memorial Park of Spokane, Wash. Visitation will be at the church only on Monday, April 6 from 4 pm until time of mass at 7 p.m.
