James D. Zimpelman
James D. Zimpelman, 71, of Richfield, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital.
Jim was born on July 9, 1937, to David and Virginia (nee Graef) Zimpelman in Richfield. He graduated from Slinger High School. Jim married Dorothy (nee Jeranek) on January 5, 1963, in Richfield. He was a machinist for Mercury Marine of Fond du Lac for over 38 years, retiring in 2002. Jim enjoyed watching the Brewers and the Rock River Baseball League. He also liked taking bus tours, playing sheepshead and spending time at the family cottage in northern Wisconsin. Jim also loved sharing his Richfield heritage and driving the backroads of Washington County with his brother David. Most of all, he loved spending time with his cherished grandchildren. Jim was a lifetime volunteer for the Richfield Fire Dept., lifetime member of the American Legion Goetz-St. Louis Post No. 0522 of Hubertus and the Richfield Historical Society.
Jim is survived by his children Allen (Evelyn) Zimpelman of Kewaskum, Brian (Karen) Zimpelman of Cedarburg, Tina (Edward) Nowak of West Bend and Eve (Scott) Teschendorf of Slinger. He is further survived by his grandchildren Halley, Collin, Joshua, Natasha, Zachar and Reese; two step-grandchildren, Jordan and Leisha; brother, David R. (Betty) Zimpelman of Hubertus; brothers-in-law, James (Barbara) Becker of Crandon and Carl (June) Jeranek of Bemidji, Minn., aunt Jewel (Cliff) Butzke of Richfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy, and brother, Orrin.
A memorial service will be on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home of Slinger with the Rev. Donald Koehn officiating. Visitation will be at the Slinger funeral home on Wednesday, April 8, from 5 p.m. until time of service (7 p.m.), with a Richfield Fire Department walk-through at 6:30 p.m. Memorials are appreciated to the Richfield Fire Department, American Legion or the Richfield Historical Society.
