Geneva Hughes of Cedarburg passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Lasata Care Center.
Geneva was born on July 30, 1916, to the late Gustav and Caroline (nee Edson) Falk and married the late Chester J. Hughes on April 25, 1942, in Madison.
Geneva graduated with a degree in music from Lawrence University in Appleton. She taught in Dodgeville, Richland Center, Madison and 22 years in the Eau Claire public school system. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists - Sigma Alpha Iota Music Sorority and Eau Claire Civic Music Association. She was the organist at First Lutheran Church in Barron and other various churches in the Eau Claire area.
Before she moved to Cedarburg she worked as a secretary for the Fuller Funeral Home in Eau Claire. She was a resident at Lasata Care Center for 12 years, where she played the piano and organ at Lasata’s chapel.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Turney of Grafton; and granddaughter, Jane Turney of Port Washington. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grafton. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Wayside Cemetery in Barron.
Memorials made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Eau Claire; First Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Barron; or Grace Lutheran Church Organ Fund, Grafton are appreciated.
