Norman William Sabel
Norman William Sabel, 92, of Lomira died on April 18, 2009 at St Francis Home, Fond du Lac.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1916 to Joseph and Anna (Kiefenheim) Sabel in Taycheedah, and married Elizabeth C. Feucht on May 6, 1941 at St. Andrew’s, LeRoy.
Norman farmed for 11 years in the town of LeRoy, drove a bus for the Mayville School District, worked at the LeRoy Locker for 30 years, was custodian 23 years for St. Andrew’s Parish in LeRoy and was a maintenance engineer for Maysteel, Allenton until his retirement in 1981.
He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy, St. Joseph’s Society, Holy Name, Lomira American Legion Post 347, Knights of Columbus Council #8817-Mayville, Veteran of Foreign Wars. he served in the U.S. Army from July 1943 to Dec. 7, 1945 during WWII at Camp Edwards in Massachusetts, Long Island, N.Y.; Liverpool, England; Omaha Beach Head, France; Gendt, Belgium; and the Battle of the Bulge, Germany. On Jan. 7, 1944 he was hit by a buzz bomb with nine dead, 69 casualties and he received a Purple Heart and four battle scars.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children, Joseph (Betty), Quinney, Michael (Mardell), LeRoy, Dennis (Joann), all of Fond du Lac, Norman G. (Mary) of Mayville; Anna (Henry) Way of Kewaskum; Duane (Jan) of Mayville; Gerard (Linda) of LeRoy; and Roseann (Art) Bredeson of LeRoy; his brothers, Ervin (Agnes) Sabel, Fond du Lac; Ralph (Alice) Sabel, Fond du Lac; two sisters-in-law, Vi Sabel, St. Cloud; Marie Sabel, Fond du Lac; brothers-in-law, Henry Feucht, Milwaukee; Albert (Aletta) Feucht, West Bend; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna (Keifenheim) Sabel; three brothers, Raymond, Gregory and Anthony; and one grandson, Dale Sabel.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, LeRoy. Visitation will be at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church LeRoy at 3 p.m. until time of service at 5:30 p.m. The Revs. Tom Biersack and Robert Berghamer will officiate. Inurnment at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church LeRoy at a later date. Lomira American Legion Post 347 will provide military rites.
