Juanita E. Bell (nee Shear), passed away at the age of 93 in West Bend
on Saturday, April 18, 2009.
She was born on Dec.
15, 1915, the daughter of Sydney and Dora (nee Malosh) Shear and grew up
on a farm outside of Hillsboro. Juanita attended Knowlton School as a
young girl. On Oct. 7, 1933, she married Victor Bell, the son of Calvin
and Clara (nee Gordon) Bell. Juanita and Victor had two daughters,
Sherrill and Sandra. Their family made their home in the Hillsboro/
Ontario community, later moving to the La Crosse/La Crescent area. They
both worked many years at the Electric Auto Lite. When it closed down in
1958, they sold everything and moved to Placerville, Calif., where they
resided for a few happy months, exploring fabled towns of the Old West.
The sudden death of Victor in May of 1960 forced Juanita and their
daughter, Sandy, to move back to La Crosse. Juanita worked at the
Lutheran Hospital until Sandy’s graduation, after which they moved to
the Kenosha/Milwaukee/West Bend area to be near her daughter, Sherrill.
Juanita volunteered many years at the Wilson Park Senior Center in
Milwaukee and found life most rewarding “when helping others.” Since
2001 she has lived at the Samaritan Healthcare Center in West Bend.
Juanita is survived by
her daughters, Sherrill Were of New Brighton, Minn., and Sandy (David)
Wynveen of West Bend; four grandchildren, Curtis (Tatana) Harvey,
Christy Zacharias, Matt Were, and Seth Wynveen; five
great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene Hatleli of Portland, Ore.;
sister-in-law, Ellen Shear of Menomonee Falls; and beloved niece, Sherry
(Jim) Kloety of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Victor; her parents, Sydney and Dora (nee Malosh) Shear; brother, Byron; sister and brother-in-law, Lodene and Lenard Baltz; and granddaughter, Kim Harvey.
In honor of Juanita’s
requests, private family services were held.
